Shining a light on leadership
Following an extensive application process and review team visit, North Gaston High School has received certification as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School.
The distinction recognizes the school’s concentrated focus on integrating leadership across the school environment and promoting leadership skills and opportunities among students, teachers, and staff.
Way to go … we did it!
North Gaston High School met its academic growth expectations for the 2025-2026 year. We also increased our graduation rate to above 90 percent. All of this means we are moving in the right direction toward higher academic achievement!
Growing Leadership Skills Through FFA
Students in the Leadership Academy at North Gaston High School are building leadership skills through the school’s FFA program. The program gives students hands-on experience in agriculture while teaching responsibility, teamwork and career readiness.

We are proud of our marching band and appreciate what the band brings to our football games on Friday nights. Be sure to take in a game this fall and support the Wildcats.

North Gaston High School students, athletes and staff came together for a high-energy pep rally to build excitement for the upcoming football season.
Providing care for students at school
Thanks to our partnership with Kintegra Health, we offer a telehealth clinic here at our school. Students, who are experiencing a minor illness or condition, can be seen by a medical provider virtually. This allows us to provide care for students without them having to leave school to go to the doctor.

The Gaston County Board of Education’s Operations Committee and Curriculum and Instruction Committee will hold a joint meeting at 12:30 p.m. Following the joint meeting, the Policy Committee will meet at 3 p.m.

MaKenzie Strader of North Gaston High School and Avery Stevens of North Gaston High School were recognized at the Gaston County Jaycees Distinguished Service Awards annual banquet. MaKenzie was named the Jaycees Outstanding Student, and Mrs. Stevens was chosen as the Jaycees Outstanding Teacher for 2026. The awards are given based on outstanding community service and commitment to volunteerism.
Teachers are encouraged to participate in the Ron L. Ensley grants program. Click here to complete the online application. The grants are presented by the Gaston County Education Foundation as a way to fund innovative classroom lessons and projects. The application deadline is Sunday, September 14.
