The Gaston County Board of Education’s Operations Committee and Curriculum and Instruction Committee will hold a joint meeting at 12:30 p.m. Following the joint meeting, the Policy Committee will meet at 3 p.m.

MaKenzie Strader of North Gaston High School and Avery Stevens of North Gaston High School were recognized at the Gaston County Jaycees Distinguished Service Awards annual banquet. MaKenzie was named the Jaycees Outstanding Student, and Mrs. Stevens was chosen as the Jaycees Outstanding Teacher for 2026. The awards are given based on outstanding community service and commitment to volunteerism.
Teachers are encouraged to participate in the Ron L. Ensley grants program. Click here to complete the online application. The grants are presented by the Gaston County Education Foundation as a way to fund innovative classroom lessons and projects. The application deadline is Sunday, September 14.
