Academics

At North Gaston High School, students have access to a wide variety of courses that help prepare them for college, careers, and life after graduation.

We offer challenging Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the Career and College Promise (CCP) program, which lets students earn college credit while still in high school. Students can also take online classes through Gaston Online and the North Carolina Virtual Public School.

North Gaston is home to the Leadership Academy, a program that helps students discover their independence, ambitions and leadership potential through academic and extracurricular experiences. Guided by the motto “Every child can be a leader,” the program focuses on empowerment, responsibility, integrity, vision and teamwork.

Using the “Leader in Me” model, students develop essential leadership skills, learn how to navigate challenges and gain a strong sense of purpose and belonging. Within the academy, students may also choose a specific pathway to tailor their leadership journey based on their individual interests and goals.

Plus, students can explore their interests through classes in Art, Band, Chorus, Theater, and Foreign Languages.

Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offers real-world learning in areas such as:

  • Internships and Apprenticeships
  • Adobe Design Tools
  • Animal Science
  • Automotive Service
  • Health Sciences and Nursing Fundamentals
  • Carpentry
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Foods and Nutrition
  • Project Management
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

With so many options, every student has the chance to find a path that fits their goals and passions.
